NOAHE Rounds III Session 2: Value-based health care – beyond theory

Value-based health care (VBHC) has gained momentum in recent years as a way in which we can improve health care and the sustainability of healthcare services. It has attracted controversy and debate with some commentators skeptical not only about the relevance of the theory to their own systems and the definition of value itself, but also whether it is truly feasible to implement. This presentation explains how the principles of VBHC are being applied in Wales, UK. There will be a focus on the rich and broad potential of patient-reported outcomes in enhancing care from the consultation room through to the planning of services and adoption of medical devices and medicines. The content may be of interest to patients, clinicians, health care managers, policy leads, and health economists.
